8428 MELROSE. A store unlike anything adidas has done before.
Objective: Bring adidas’ new brand direction to life in an experimental retail space on LA’s most iconic street.
8428 MELROSE – a new experimental retail space and a bold statement of intent; driven by a new creative direction for the adidas brand.
Inspired by the energy and creativity of LA’s iconic Melrose neighbourhood, we collaborated with the adidas team to create a branded environment design that is unlike anything they’ve done before. A retail space where they can showcase pinnacle stories and innovation, tease their vision of sport, and invite collaborators to experiment alongside them.
Pairing a striking yet enigmatic façade with an elevated, lab-like interior - 8428 MELROSE draws on the brand’s core principle of simplicity, delivering a clean and confident brand message and stage for products.
The retail interior comprises of two gallery-style rooms, connected by a central glass lab – a key statement of the store design. Materials used throughout are raw and humble while execution is sleek and refined. A contrast that unites to create a minimalist backdrop for product elevation – perfect for a store with an ever-changing program of stories and creative activations.
Here, superfluous logos are shunned in favour of branding that is integral to the design. Three floating beams that punch gloss red through the otherwise minimalist interior design – creating the stage for footwear. While an exposed warehouse ceiling, complete with space age foil lining, adds an extra injection of light to create a fresh and welcoming atmosphere to this highly-experimental retail space.
